This assignment let me choose a game to base a new level off of. I chose Metal Gear Solid 5 as my base. I started from a level design document, worked it into a white box, and then set dressed it. The theming around the level was a mission based in the Africa map, where Venom Snake must infiltrate a small military base with a hidden bunker and extract or kill the VIP hiding there. The only constraint with this assignment is that it had to be roughly 100x100m. With that in mind I focused solely on the base itself and not the surrounding area, although I did try to account for it.

I paid close attention to Metal Gear's sense of freedom. I started by allowing the player to have 3 entry points: a hole on the left hidden by bushes, the main gate, and a small hill that leads over the gate on the right. The encampment is made up of a few houses ad tents, most of which contain item(s) and provide different paths for the player to take. Enemy pathing was tricky since the area wasn't very big. I made sure to have ample tight paths alongside the buildings to help players avoid enemy sights. I kept the bunker to a small room and closet since enclosed spaces go somewhat against the games spirit of planning and infiltration. The closet in the bunker was added to give the player bonus resources should they infiltrate the base outside of a mission.

The project was made using Unreal 5. The main asset pack featured is "Third Person Shooter Kit v2.1." Objects and trees were used from Megascan Assets.
